A Gestational Diabetes 7-Days Diet Plan

A GESTATIONAL DIABETES 7-DAYS DIET PLAN: 

Gestational diabetes is a type of diabetes that develops during pregnancy in women who previously did not have diabetes. GDM is defined as carbohydrates intolerance with recognition or onset during pregnancy. 
 

 

Goals in Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (GDM):

  • To achieve normoglycemia 
  • To Provide adequate weight gain and add to the foetal wellbeing. 
  • To prevent ketosis. 

 

 

DIETARY FIBER:- 

Soluble fiber helps to lower the Cholesterol and slow down the rise in blood sugar after the food. Intake of foods high in fiber helps to feel full longer and may help to stop unhealthy snacking between meals. Recommended intake of fiber is 25- 30gm per day. Drinking 8-10 glasses of fluids each day helps the body to use the fiber. 

 


FOODS TO AVOID: - 

  • Sugar, sweet, cake, jam, jelly. 
  • Fruit juices, soft drinks, squashes, roohafzas. 
  • Potato, sweet potato, arbi. 
  • Mango, cheeku, grapes, banana. 
  • Excess of desi ghee, butter, cream, mayonnaise, Bread spreads. 
  • Fried food like purl, pakora, parantha, kachori. 
  • Less rice and rice products, Prefers brown rice. 

 

 

TIPS FOR DIABETICS: - 

  • Use complex carbohydrates and multigrain flour that includes whole wheat Atta, Ragi , Jowar, Bajra etc. 
  • Include fresh fruits, vegetables and salads, prefer seasonally and locally available fruits and vegetables. 
  • Use cooking methods which requires minimum amount of fat. 
  • Include omega 3 fatty acids in diet by adding Flax seeds, Chia Seeds, Sesame Seeds and Sunflower Seeds and Walnuts. 
  • Read the nutrition labels carefully. Products that are sugar free, fat free, or high fiber, do not necessarily have a reduced number of calories or carbohydrates. 
  • Avoid long gaps between meal times.
